An Introduction to Dentistry & the Basics of Dental Assisting The dental assistant profession requires familiarity with dental anatomy, dental technology, and several branches of dentistry. Dental assistants must follow specific protocol to ensure that administered treatments are completed successfully and patients are safe and comfortable at all times. DA200: Chairside Assistance provides students with an in-depth overview of the profession of dentistry as it relates to the dental assistant in general, giving students a starting point on which to build their understanding of the profession and the responsibilities it entails. The course also provides a detailed introduction of several branches of specialty dentistry, including orthodontics, pedodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, and fixed and removable prosthodontics. By learning about these branches of dentistry, students can begin building their proficiency as a dental assistant in several professional settings.
